Snowshoeing on Yellowjacket Trail

February 25th, 2009     Tags:, ,

I shot this picture along the Yellowjacket Trail while snowshoeing from Snowbunny Sno-Park to White River East Sno-Park. As you can see from the picture, I was breaking trail after a fresh snow fall. There was about 2-4 inches of light snow on top of a very hard icy snow base. It was snowing on and off throughout the day so I didn’t get any good pictures of Mt Hood.

Wildwood Trail

February 4th, 2009     Tags:, , ,

I wanted to keep building up my long distance hiking capabilites, so I decided to do some hiking on the Wildwood Trail in Forest Park. Since it is close to home for me, it is also a good trail to get some hiking mileage in.

Moutain Loop for Thanksgiving

December 9th, 2008     Tags:, , , , ,

The weekend after Thanksgiving, Trista and I got to spend a weekend together while my parents watch the kids. We decided to stay close to Portland and do some hiking and relaxing. We drove around Mt Hood, which I will call the Mt Loop, and stayed two nights at the Comfort Inn in Hood River.
The Mtn Loop should only take about 3 1/2 to drive all of it from home, so I should be able to get out there more often.

I went on a short two and a half hour photowalk in Forest Park this morning. Forest Park is Located between Portland and Beaverton on west hills. I drove up to Skyline Drive and parked the car on the gravel (east of Skyline Rd) portion of Springville Rd near the gate. I took firelane 7 road to Ridge Trail which connects up to Wildwood Trail. Once on Wildwood, I hiking south until it was time to turn around and head home. The following pictures were taken on that walk except for the red left in the grass, which was taken in a park near home.

Sunday morning, I decided to drive north of Prairie City on Hwy 18 to Magone Lake recreation area. The area was nice with lots of hwy to explore by bike. There was only one hiking trail, which didn’t seem to interesting. So I headed back to Hwy 26 to look for another hike in the Strawberry Wilderness.

My objective today was to explore the Strawberry wilderness. I didn’t do a lot of research of this wilderness before hand so I was not sure what to expect. When I arrived into Prairie City, I also saw of forest fire near Mt Strawberry, so I was not even sure I could get up there.

Prairie City Photowalk 2008 Day 1

October 29th, 2008     Tags:, , ,

I wanted to get out of town again and was trying to decide where to go. I thought about heading up to Olympic National Park, but was not sure I want to go somewhere that had a high change of rain. I looked at a number other options like Grants Pass, Oregon, Bend, Oregon, and Cascade Mountains in Washington. I finally settled on the Prairie City Oregon. It is usually dry out in the high desert so I didn’t have to deal with the rain. I had never been through and I heard they had great road biking in the area, that I could scott out for another trip. The Strawberry wilderness was just south of the city, so I had a great destination.
